2.Coverage and Features

Eligibility & Entry Age:

  • Available to any expatriate residing outside their Country of Nationality.
  • Entry age is between 16 and 60 years for residents in Brazil, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, UAE, UK, or USA.
  • Entry age is between 10 and 74 years in all other countries.
  • Children under the minimum entry age can be insured as dependants under the principal policy.

APRIL MyHealth International allows you to choose from four modular hospitalization levels, depending on your needs and local healthcare costs:

Modular Hospitalization Levels:

  • Explore: The budget-friendly entry option offering an annual maximum benefit of €/US$ 500,000. Covers hospitalisation at 100% in a semi-private room.
  • Essential: Provides an annual maximum limit of €/US$ 1,500,000. Includes 100% coverage for a standard private hospital room and parental accommodation for insured children.
  • Extensive: Annual limit of €/US$ 2,000,000 in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and USA, and Unlimited in the rest of the world. Covers a private room, pre/post-hospital care at 100%, and inpatient psychiatric care up to €/US$ 8,000 (max 15 days).
  • Elite: Comprehensive top-tier cover with an annual limit of €/US$ 4,000,000 in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and USA, and Unlimited in the rest of the world. Includes full coverage for private rooms, advanced imaging, and inpatient psychiatric care up to 30 days.

Optional Add-on Modules:

  • Outpatient Care: Consultations with GPs and specialists, prescribed drugs, lab tests, physiotherapy, mental health consultations, alternative medicine, and preventive health screenings.
  • Optical & Dental: Routine and major dental treatments (waiting period 3–6 months), orthodontics, optical frames, lenses, and laser eye surgery (waiting period 6 months).
  • Maternity: Routine pregnancy, pre/post-natal care, childbirth, complications, and infertility treatment (waiting period 12–24 months).
  • Comprehensive Assistance & Personal Liability: Enhanced repatriation assistance, search & rescue, travel incident cover, and personal liability cover up to €/US$ 7,500,000 per event.
  • Deductibles & Co-payments: Personalize premiums with annual deductible options (€/US$ 0, 500, 1,000, 2,500, or 5,000) or outpatient co-payment options (0%, 10%, 20%, or 30%).

Geographical Area of Cover:

  • Zone 1: Worldwide including the United States.
  • Zone 2: Worldwide excluding the United States.
  • Emergency Cover in USA: For policyholders under Zone 2, emergency and accident medical treatment in the United States is covered during temporary stays of up to 60 consecutive days.

3.Advantages

  • Freedom of Choice of Healthcare Provider: Under APRIL MyHealth 2.0, you are free to choose your own healthcare provider, though a clear financial incentive applies:
  • In-Network: Planned treatment and hospitalizations are covered at 100% within your policy limits if you choose an hospital in the network of April.
  • Out-of-Network: If you choose a healthcare provider outside your plan's designated network, a 40% co-payment typically applies. That means 40% of the costs of the treatment need to be paid by yourself.
  • Exceptions: The 40% co-payment is waived in cases of medical emergencies or duly justified exceptional circumstances (e.g., if no network hospital is reasonably accessible).

More plan characteristics:

4.Important Remarks

  • Depending on the chosen level of cover, some waiting periods may apply.
    • 3 to 6 months waiting period for Dental plan
    • 6 months waiting period for Optical plan
    • 12 months waiting period for Cancer preventive surgery
    • 12 months waiting period for Complications of pregnancy
    • 12 months waiting period for Genetic testing
    • 12 months waiting period for Maternity plan
    • 24 months waiting period for Infertility treatment
  • There are conditions you have to meet to add a Newborn to your insurance plan without underwriting.
    • You must have had Maternity cover for at least 12 consecutive months
    • the request to add the newborn must be send to April within 30 days of birth including a birth certificate
    • If you do not meet these requirements, then you will need to complete a complete application including the Medical questionnaire. The cover for the newborn will take effect after medical approval by the insurance company
  • The minimum period of insurance is 12 months. And the plan will be renewed automatically each year, on the Renewal date.
  • You may request to terminate your insurance with a 60 day notice period prior to the Renewal date. It is also possible to terminate the insurance mid-year with a 30 day notice period.

  • If you wish to change the Area of Cover, you need to complete a new application including the medical questionnaire. Your request will be subjected to assessment by the insurance company and can be refused.

5.Premium and get a quote

Premiums are calculated based on your age, country of residence, selected area of cover, chosen plan level, optional modules, deductible, and co-payment settings.

  • Currencies: EUR (€) or USD ($).
  • Payment Frequencies: Annual, semi-annual, quarterly, or monthly (monthly payment is available via SEPA direct debit).
  • Payment Methods: Credit card, PayPal, Bank transfer, SEPA direct debit.

6.How to apply?

April offers an online application module. The module is available in English. The application module is also used to get a quote.

Once you have made a quote, you can proceed by clicking on APPLY.

7.Services after your policy starts

  • Easy Claim App: Manage your policy entirely online. Submit outpatient reimbursement claims digitally by taking a picture of your medical invoices and prescriptions.
  • Easy Pay Card: A virtual card solution for costly outpatient treatments (pharmacy, scans, medical devices) allowing you to avoid out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Direct Settlement for Hospitalisation: For planned hospital stays, request Pre-Approval at least 5 days in advance via the Easy Claim app. APRIL handles direct billing with the hospital.
  • Pre-Approval: All hospitalisations and outpatient treatments exceeding €/US$ 2,000 require prior authorization from the medical team.
